Information

The women that are the subjects of these paintings are everyday women who inspire and push me to be strong and creative. They are actors, artists, singers, fictional characters, and strong women in history. The strength of one, the tenderness of another. The will of one, the musings of another. I celebrate all women past and present: those who dared, and those who dreamed. Few things in a woman are as expressive as her eyes and hair. I wanted to create paintings highlighting the depth and character that a woman can portray with just these two elements, stripping away everything else. The strength in the eyes and the femininity expressed by the hair represents a woman’s unique duality that transcends culture. Some of the paintings also include a detail that is embroidered directly on the paper. The boldness of the thread contrasted against the softness of the watercolor helps further accentuate that duality.

Caroline Ghantous ArtW20 Born in Cairo, Egypt to a Lebanese father and a Palestinian mother. I studied Art & Design at SJSU in California before moving back to Egypt and then the UAE. After years as an Art Dircetor in advertising, I moved to France for a year where I focused on my art.    I have always loved watercolor, figure drawing and portraits. I am captivated by the 1920s, fairies, Frida Kahlo & all things whimsical; elements that strongly influence my art. I’m always learning, exploring and trying to find a rhythm between being a woman, a mother, a wife and a painter.  Using watercolor as my primary medium, the female form is the focus of my work, where I emphasize the sacred beauty of a woman’s body, mind and soul. Depicted in a whimsical and dreamy form, I try to bring out the power and softness of femininity.    EXHIBITIONS: Aug 2022 - “I AM WOMAN” - Sam Malouf Authentic Luxury - Burlingame, California.   May 2021 - “ENOUGH” - “Doko al-Jidran” Fundraiser (PCRF) Exhibition, ArtTalks Gallery - Cairo, Egypt.   Jan 2021 - “Fayetta Ife” - XLIX Artist Collaboration Project by Griet Van Den Auwelant, Design District, World Art Dubai and Aisha Alabbar Art Gallery - Dubai, UAE   Jul 2017 - “I AM FRIDA”  Tribute to Frida Exhibition WONDERLAND SF Gallery - San Francisco, California.    Mar 2017 - “I AM WOMAN” - RISE EVENT, BILLBAREED Collaboration for International Women’s Day - Dubai Creek Harbour - Dubai, UAE   Dec 2010 - “SILENCE” - Bill’Arts - Fontainebleau, France.
