BULL II by Artist- AV Ilango
The unmodulated application of colors created forms that recorded the anatomy of the bovine creatures. Large areas of the body became irregular but almost lyrical abstractions. The snout assumed the wedge shape; the horns were crescent like and the skeletal view of its rear become the markers of the bull’s body. The colors were of deep tones of somber hues capturing the very essence of the bull as belonging to the earth. The restricted palette underlines the Indian sensibility in the choice of tones. The colored silhouettes are seemingly free flowing forms yet remarkably true to the features of the bull. Apart from capturing the physical appearance, the artist was able to capture the raw bovine energy.
